how do I get my junk into people's hands?
hi, I run a junkyard. I've got probably the best junk you've ever seen or will ever wish to see, but lately business has been quite slow. Perhaps I need a new marketing strategy? i used to advertise in the phone book, but does anybody use those anymore? I was thinking about signing up for twitter and then tweeting about my junk. You know, get the word out, so that people can come see for themselves. What do you think?

What type of junk you are selling will make the difference. Perhaps you need to reposition yourself as a purveyor of recycled cars, boats, furniture, clothing or whatever.

Just what would you tweet about? As for myself, I love to go treasure hunting in thrift/junk shops, and I do use the Yellow Pages. I throw away the knock off phone books, you know, the ones that are not put out by the phone company, so be sure that you go with the REAL Yellow Pages. I've spent a lot of time looking up stuff in the phone book, and having a large, well-laid ad can help me decide whether to go to a shop or not. I especially appreciate maps and directions. I am particularly interested in learning if a shop specializes in something. Having a website could be an option, too. Again, post directions. If you have something that's hard to find, put it on the website.

For the record, I never follow Twitter, except for a few tweets on the various websites that I visit anyway. I mean, most tweets aren't really anything interesting, just a few comments on what someone is doing RIGHT NOW, and mostly I don't care what someone is doing unless it's important.

Hell, no, don't stop using the Yellow Pages! That's wonderful local advertising! I'm always looking in the Yellow Pages when I want a local business for one reason or another.

I've never been on twitter, personally, and don't know the first thing about it.

You could always put things on eBay's Auctions, or Amazon.com Auctions... these sites allow you to upload pictures of your junk, and you can rave all about the particular piece of junk you're auctioning right now. Don't forget to set a minimum bid and a time limit for that particular auction.

That reminds me, where are you located, anyway? I'd like to see some of your junk. Go to my profile on regular Yahoo and send me an email.
