This optimization step usually means that you make your content unique, interesting and people friendly while intelligently using those keywords within your content. What this does in very simple words is that when your website is 'noticed' by search engines for having good content that is unique and has a certain density for a keyword or key-phrase it bumps up your ranking in the search engines rankings.
