Primary shooting isn't everything. There's scouting locations, adding CGI, model production, PR campaigns, rehersal, and so on. Sometimes, some actors return for secondary shooting if the script's changed or an ending or twist didn't work out. Such as the Millennium Falcon really getting blown up in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.

Production includes pre and post, technically. Filming is referred to as "principal photography" and is only one aspect of production. They can coincide, but in many cases, production will include pre-production (everything from casting, to location scouting, etc.) and post-production (editing, music, etc.).
