It depends on who wants it and what they are willing to pay. The average domain name is probably not worth more than a few bucks. In the early days of the Internet obviously valuable domains like sex.com, hotels.com etc. could have been worth thousands, maybe millions - but these days those are all taken (and it's a copyright violation to make a domain for a brand you don't own).

Hello...Someone recently contacted me offering to sell me the .com domain featuring my business name. I had the .com version of my business name for years but was unable to renew the registration when the registrar went out of business. I got hyped for a minute but then just went with the .net version. When I was contacted buy the individual trying to make a profit by trying to sell me the domain I had used for so many years I sent them a link to the Anti-Cybersquatting Piracy Act (ACPA) : http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/property00/...ation.html . You know I haven't heard from them since. Hope this helps.
