Why do i get bad internet lag while playing minecraft multiplayer?

Okay so i have an intel i5 good computer grapics card and stuff i recently tried http://www.speedtest.net and i had average-good internet however, when i play minecraft on a multiplayer server i get random internet lag including lag backs or the game just freezes and i can just randomly break blocks and stuff but then a few seconds later i'm dead or something?? This happens on minecraft survival games servers. Anyone know a way to fix this??

This is the server, not your computer. Usually when this happens the server needs to reboot.

Its most likely the server is being run on a low end computer or a slow internet connection. Nothing to do with you. Try a different server.
