Internet not working?!?

Our internet has always been slow (BT- but we won't go into that now...) but now I can't actually get any on my computer, my xbox and ipad etc can all get internet (slow of course as it's BT) but my computer says its connected. Steam can't get anything but will sometime connect for a minute and skype will do the same, I can't load any websites on my pc. We have been told we have a faulty cable, but BT can't be bothered to fix it but the internet isn't normally this bad. i have checked the cables and everything so there is no reason It shouldn't work, other than its BT.
Any help is appreciated.
We've had a look at that, but we are going to speak to a few people to check some stuff and if it turns out it is definitely BT we will change, probably to virgin.

BT is offering a service they have to be bothered or they lose a customer like you. If you want just restart everything the router pc periphials even the xbox then switch things back on mainly what you need. If it doesnt work try to find a guide or manual to work your way through the modem or router and change the settings of you router such as the password of the wireless it could have been hacked etc. If nothing works non BT related call BT to fix it or leave them and join another ISP provider.
