How do I get a Youtube gaming channel subscribers?

My bf has a Youtube gaming channel and I do the editing for his videos.. his dream in life, currently, is to become big on Youtube by way of game commentator. He has a great personality and is entertaining, but he gets discouraged easily and after a month of working at this he is feeling kind of down because he only has 9 subscribers... Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can get him more likes, views, and subscribers?

hes not really on social media, and has been out of school for many years now, so he doesnt have a twitter pr facebook with a bunch of friends or anything.. I do and I post on there but my friends arent really gamer type people..

Post on relevant forums, that helps out a lot sometimes. Tell him that he should make contact with other small, but good channels. So he can spread the word easier, by doing something more than just posting it everywhere.

But, no matter how desperate you guys are (not saying you are, but maybe later, I dunno), NEVER buy subscribers and/or views and that kind of stuff. It will just bite you in the ass.
