How do I get internet connection for my laptop?

I was told to connect my ethernet cable from my modum and into my laptop, since it won't connect to any network. It still says that it's still not connected to my network, so is there something I'm doing wrong?
My internet works otherwise, it's just the laptop having trouble

Was your laptop connecting via a wireless modem?

Connecting the ethernet cable directly into your laptop ethernet port should create a connection.

1. Have you tried rebooting your modem? Maybe you lost the internet connection at the modem.

2. Try connecting to another laptop or computer, maybe the internet card in the laptop is bad.

3. Is the problem with your internet provider? Have you called them?
