Just curious. My brother went on and whatever he saw apparently freaked him out. What's on there?

In reality, this "deep web" of which you speak is merely the vast amount of the internet that is not indexed by search engines either because the pages are dynamically generated or behind a password protected area of some sort. So as to what he saw, it probably was something along the lines of what he usually sees but maybe with less clothing on.

You have to be very careful when entering the dark web Because there are viruses in like 90% of all sites. You should use trusted search engines like Tor along with a program that tricks servers (proxy server) so hackers can't find your IP address.
