I was blocked by my parents from our netgear router?
Since I stayed up late at night my parents decided to block me from wifi during the night. They somehow just blocked my device, which is an ipad. My sisters still have the ability to connect at any point. I'm trying to connect using my ipad, so I was wondering how they did this and if I could override it somehow. I was thinking maybe there was a way to disguise my IPAd as another one to connect.i think it's a netgear n300 router.

The router, simply put, is basically saying "This device cannot connect to me past X hours." That being said, I don't think that there's much of anything you can do to disguise your IPad. Instead, I think you should either A) Find a different router to connect to, or B) Make a deal with one of your sisters so that you can use one of their devices when your device doesn't cooperate. Or simply C) Download things now so you can play them offline later.

I'm pretty sure that we all know that they've blocked you out because they're afraid of you watching porn (or have caught you in the act). Why don't you consider a girlfriend, mate?

You should respect your parents wishes....

If not then try renaming the device. The router is likely blocking it by device name.

Make sure you turn OFF Wi-Fi, rename the device, restart it, then enable Wi-Fi.

If this does not work, you can try to release the ipconfig.

Disguising your device is not going to help. It is the device that has been blocked from the router, not just the name of the device. To do this, your parents have used administrator settings to keep your device from obtaining an IP address registered to your house's router. Or perhaps they contacted your ISP and had them block your iPad (if your parents are not savvy, this is probably what they did).

The only way to overcome this signal block is to hack the Wifi, which I do not recommend.

Perhaps your parents are doing this because you are getting hooked on the use of the internet and you are still in school? If so, try to learn a lesson from this and try to negotiate with them if you believe you have a case. Good luck.

I know of a few ways round this:

1) (preferred) Have you got a mobile phone that has internet capabilities? If so then most phones (especially smartphones) should have a way to turn their data connection into a wireless hotspot. Do that, and if you go over any limits, you'll have to tell your parents to let you back on through the router.
2) (less preferred) Most places around have some free wireless access points. I know that around my area, BT have "Openzone" access points where anyone can access the internet. It won't be a secure internet connection so you'll have to watch what you type.
3) (risky) are you able to get onto a device that can connect to the internet? If so go to your wireless router address (usually 192.168.0.1) and type in the router username and password(usually on the back of the router somewhere, or ith the papers that came with the router). Then you can go into the router settings and allow your iPad access.
Hope this works for you Smile

Hi,

They did this using MAC address filtering and you can not over ride if you do not have the password. Removing your MAC address of IPAD from router wont let you connect to router even if you have the key.

Hope this answer your question.
Good Luck.
