It's a gimmick to hypnotize people into watching his next show. Everyone has this. Kiss have their make up. The Fonz has his 'EYYYYY!' and Shinji Ikari's ability to *CENSORED* on camatose women.

At least thats what he told me...

...No wait, that's my imaginary uncle Paul's gimmick. My mistake! Shinji's is being a wuss.
