Twitter notifications?

Ok, so you know how on the Apple products when you get notifications, a little red circle shows up on the app icon - telling you the # of notifications you have? Well, usually mine go away following me opening the app, but the red bubble will not seem to go away on my twitter icon. I have checked my notifications many times, but the circle stays telling me I have all these notifications I never checked. Does anybody know how to fix this? Thanks.
