My internet speed says I have 100Mbps but if I download something it downloads at 200kb/s to 300kb/s?

Your speed is decided by your isp.

Test it at speedtest.net.

I get about 20 Mbps with Comcast, friends get about 38 Mbps with Verizon FIOS (fiber).

Make sure that any b in your question is capitalized correctly. A lowercase b is a bit, while a capital B is a byte. There are 8 bits in a byte.

Your download speeds are also affected by web browsing, not all your internet speed is used by just you downloading just that file.

You have to take in to consideration the server speed and the number of people downloading and transferring data if you want to test ping open command prompt type in (Ping Google.com to test you ping and speed of transferring data

The 100Mbps is simply the speed of your hardwired connection from your PC to the router. The router to ISP connection is much slower and ends up being the bottleneck.
