Its coming up as 7.2 k on ahrefs, yet 38k on majestic seo.

I dont understand, how many backlinks does it have?

There is no accurate way to know the number of back links a page has as to get this whichever tool you are using would have to have read every page on the entire web.

The funny thing is, if you check it on Google Webmaster it'll probably show like 500. The fact is that there is no totally accurate tool that shows the 'correct' number of backlinks. I would suggest you just worry about how it's ranking and what keywords it is ranking for. Good luck, sounds like it's a pretty strong link profile to start with!

There is no such thing as a perfect tool. Most likely, they will show lesser number than the actual. But for instance you are running a campaign focused on Google, then make sure to check the analytics or webmaster tools. Same is true with yahoo/bing where you should claim your bing websmaster tools. Third party tools such as alexa, backlinkwatch, traffic travis, seo spyglass gathers data from all types of places. So as you can see, a certain tool might only cover a certain scope so you will need to combined functionality from several options.
