Why does Backpage.com have a prostitution section?

Last I heard prostitution was illegal. I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering why they haven't yet been busted. Or if they're an FBI trap or something.

Because those prostitutes are trying to sell themselves. Just like other things are sold on backpage and craigslist

From a quick look at that page, it says escort, not prostitution.

Escort is someone you pay to stick around with you in public, NOT for... other activities. They're essentially "escorting" you in public. Sure, an escort service can be a cover for a prostitution service, but not always.
