I only need short answers! Was I right to react the way that I did or am I overdoing it?

All the people mentioned in the story below are about 20 years old.

I recently dated this guy (until the other day). Lets call him Jack. We talked about exes and I told him that one of mine is still one of my best friends, and that he's a great person. Lets call him Harry. Harry is a lot shorter than I am and very overweight and Jack is sort of good looking. Jack and I know many of the same people, and someone had shown him pictures of Harry on his Facebook profile the other day. A common friend of ours told me about it and told me that Jack had said that he thought Harry was so ugly that he was embarrassed on my behalf. Jack had actually been slightly embarrassed that he was dating me since his friends know Harry and was making fun of him. He wasn't about to dump me or anything. I brought it up with him and he didn't have much to say so I called it (us) off. I don't like it when someone disrespects my best friends or me. I still like and miss Jack although I think he's an idiot.

Did I overreact or was what he did enough to be a dealbreaker?

I feel like what you're really upset with is the fact that Jack was shallow and judgmental enough to not only call Harry ugly, but to be embarrassed that you ever dated Harry. I think this occasion really shows Jack's true colors. I would be upset too!

Well you called it off what do you expect. But if he cared he would try to reach you again depending on how much he likes you. Also him saying that was completely immature and stupid to say. I don't think your over reacting at all but maybe you should have talked about it some more

I'm the same way with my bestfriend. (I'm a girl, he's a guy). But I never dated him.

My boyfriend used to talk about my best friend all the time. But I told him I didn't like that and asked him to stop - and he did.

It's really going to be hard to find a guy that is OK with you being best friends with a guy you dated once. Jack was probably just saying those things to make himself feel better. He wants to feel like he's superior so that he knows you like him over Harry... but the fact that you dumped him for just talking about your friend means you probably still have feeling for him - more than just best friend feelings.
