Did I use the phrasal verb "went into" correctly?
There was this girl who greeted my sister on facebook. I "went into" her account and the first thing I looked at was her profile picture. Is this correct?

I guess, technically.

Why don't you try using active voice and the word accessed instead though.

I accessed her account and looked at her profile picture first.

Yes, it is a modern situation and there are no classic ways to describe entering a section of cyber space, because the whole thing is so new. When we talk about the internet, and we want to say that we looked at a certain website, we say we "went to" the website. We say "go there" about looking at a website. We say things like "went into" someones account, because we feel as if we are entering a space that "belongs to" them, like their room where they sleep and keep their stuff in their home. That bit of cyber space doesn't literally "belong to" them, I mean, what IS it, anyway?! WHERE is it? We imagine the Intenet to be like a physical space like those we live in—like our home, at our school or job, a store or park or a road. They aren't those, but that's how we deal with them. So I don't know if there are any strict rules on what people do or don't say about cyber space, but —well, this will give you an example. There is something wrong with my YA pages, which makes part of your question covered up with some other words. So when I read your question, I just saw "I "went into" her account and the first thing I looked at was her profile picture. Is this correct?"

I read "I went into" exactly as you meant it without thinking twice about it. I knew just what you meant. When you asked "Is this correct?" I thought you were talking about whether going into her account was good manners!! lol So that should tell you that to ME, at least, it is correct!

(Do you say "I Googled that movie." ?? I think that is really funny sounding!! It is not another example of the thing I have been talking about, though. If it were, I would have said "I went to Google.")
