After the updation of Google algorithm Social linking is more important than directory submission or blog commenting to get traffic to your site.

1. Directory Submission should contain rel="follow" links which is under link schemes, so not to use.

2. Matt Cutts already explained not to do comment spam, need to use names in comment, If you want to use comments, so that it looks natural.

3. Social linking which is rel="nofollow" always good to use, You can use Facebook, Google Plus and Twitter

Check and use limited directories which are not banned in Google's record. And next I'll suggest you to make appealing social media profile and participate in some great discussions, follow active & niche communities. Blog commenting is not much effective therefore I'm not in favor of this activity.
