how long does it take for a new website to get 1st page google ranking with low competition keywords?
I have a new site and I an paying someone to get 1st page google ranking. It is a niche business with low competition keywords. It has been 2 weeks and I don't see any results. I have posted classified ads on related sites 1 and 2 weeks ago and they have already updated and are now 1st and 2nd page google.

I feel like I am being taken advantage of and the contractor is just wasting time to bill more hours and not doing their job. How is it that I, not knowing anything, can place a few classified ads on forums and get 1st page google but the professional who has had 2 weeks can't even get the webiste to show up>?

How long should it take for a new website with low competition keywords to get ranking? Also is there anyway to check up on the contractor to verify their working on this? I don't even know what proof to ask for.

Websites and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is not a click your fingers and it's all done thing. I have been doing my own SEO work but my websites for years and it can take a while for things to be added to Google and 2 weeks is a relatively short amount of time. I have been very lucky with all my sites and they all place highly in google. But it's not always as easy as you might think.

Good websites to track your sites performance and setup are

http://www.alexa.com
(used to see how many people (very roughly) go to your site)

https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/home?hl=en
(you can add your website to google webmasters to track the search keywords etc and what links to it)

http://validator.w3.org/
(website for ensuring your website is complient to standards, google and other search engines like sites that are properly structured, it's also good practice)

http://nibbler.silktide.com/
(nice site that checks your site - shows possible solutions to improve your website)

It also helps having links to your site, having a link here you help as it would show google that something is linking to it, thus giving it more credibility. (although you should make sure that the pages that link to it are relatively related to yours where ever possible).

If you're always fighting with designers developers and marketing managers over how SEO ruins usability, don't despair! Demonstrating successes in SEO often quash the naysayers, so save some gray hair and first shoot for the "least imperfect" site feasible, and then work toward the perfection you desire once you've convinced your detractors of SEO value! http://www.webdesigner.lk/

My websites took 3 month and some up to 6 month to get ranked no. 1 in google. Be patient is the most important if we decided to get in into the internet business. Once your website was ranked no. 1, you still have to work hard to get it maintain on top. It is not an easy job to get good SEO and costly. If money is not your problem, you can pay thousands of dollars a month to get ranked faster. This is because most high rank (high PR 7 - 10) websites charge thousands of dollars to get backlink from them. If you have a low budget and don't want to pay more, you have to wait and be patient...

It depends on the company you use and what they offer. I use a company called Backlinksgenie.com to get my earring website ranked. I have used it for three months and am now on page one for one of my search keywords. It takes time and dedication to schedule projects. The company I use has instructions and videos to help step you through what to do to get the best results. They also have great customer support. I am very happy with the service.
If anyone is interested in homemade surgical stainless earrings, my website is http://www.sherrisjewelrybox.com.

Hi JK
just my two cents. You can use http://www.fiverr.com to find some good seo services for $5. I am not sure how good they are but cost wise, it should be much more affordable for you there, no more billable hours. Smile

Thanks,

There is a great tool for Firefox... it's called SEOquake (http://www.seoquake.com/) and it will give you all the information, full diagnosis and suggestions to improve your website ranking.
It takes time to build a good ranking and a lot of work.
