how do i change ad choices to opt out?

I am signed nto mail and do not want all the adverts which appear due to me visiting other yahoo browser sites. I go through the process of opt out but it will not take effect how can I opt out in ad choices

You can only opt-out of the currently advertised product and maybe the ad network presenting it. You may never be able eliminate all ads.

Clearing browser cookies should eliminate Re-targeting ads from sites you had once visited.
