Depending where you live will ultimately depend on WHO can provide you broadband.

Broadband is provided by a variety of methods.
I get my broadband via cable, it does not require a phone line.
Others get their broadband by what is called ADSL - this is usually sent over a telephone line.

Companies do deals where the broadband and line are sold together at a competitive price. Cable tends to do similar deals even though the service can be provided as a stand alone package.

The company you choose will send you all the equipment you need:
But do not assume EVERYTHING.

When you purchase the deal you decide make sure you understand WHAT they are offering and what comes with their deal.
Such as MODEM with microfilters - required for ADSL And an ethernet cable to connect it to your computer.
Cable is the same the modem - ethernet cable etc.

Also think about WHERE you want it installed. The BEST place is RIGHT next to a power socket, as the modem will need to be plugged in.

Some people call the modem a router. Whilst in this sense they are the same thing, a modem is not a router really, its a "modem-router" usually u can wire 4 lines into them, hence the name modem-router. If the isp just call it router this is what they mean. Not to be confused with other products called routers. The isp will NOT send you the wrong thing. If they say modem or router or modem router its the RIGHT thing for their service.

And you of course need a computer to set it working and then can use any wifi enabled devices to actually use the net.

Hey, all you need is a credit card or other ability to make payment. As long as you pay, a provider will happily give you broadband service whether or not you are able to use it.
