There are a number of free hosts that would probably suffice, blog platforms are popular because you can get a site working with no programming, their libraries of predefined themes allow you to create something that doesn't look too much like a blog. Google's Blogger.com is quite popular and one of the rare free hosts with no paid upgrades.

You might try this Google search to see the style of their blogs, site:blogspot.com intitle:charity

To look more serious you can spend $12/year for a custom domain name that hides the fact that you are using a free host and allows you to relocate to a new host as needed without starting over from scratch, Blogger allows you to use a domain name obtained from sources like godaddy.com or namecheap.com

Wordpress.com is the free hosted version of the industry standard blog platform, what you learn and develop there could be more easily transferred to a paid hosting wordpress site at a later date, there are a larger number of paid and free themes and plugins for wordpress, it's used by some 17% of the top 1 million sites.

blogger is best. For more professional look, just buy a domain name for $10 per year. There are a lot of different templates available for blogger.
