What is the recommended speed limit for Video call on Hangouts and Skype?
Well, I've checked the Skype's but I don't know what's it tryna say, it said 30kBit/s or 16KByte/s is enough for audio calling, I can't believe it. It says, "kbps" which is "kilobit per second." How on earth will I be able to call a person with 30Kbit/s at both download and uplaod speed? I'm really confused with this. How much speed is recommeded to call with Hangouts and with Skype (cause I'm confused)? ISP is providing 1Mbps, can I make video call with 128Kbyte/s or 1Mbit/s?
Note: I've Googled a lot and every answer is more confusing. Ads |

I am pretty sure that they are talking about KiloBytes, not KiloBits.
Even if they were talking about 30k Bits, thats still possible lol. 1 byte = 8 bits 1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte 1 Kilobytes = 8 Kilobits. 1024 Kilobytes = 1 Megabyte 1 megabyte = 8 Megabits. You can also do speed checks on this @ http://www.speedtest.net How much do you pay for your low speed internet? 12$ a month USD I hope? Otherwise find someone else, because thats really horrible.. I've seen satellite internet thats faster than that... Even with that speed, you should have no problem talking to 2 or 3 people via audio on skype. as long as your not doing any gaming or heavy web browsing. You + 1 person Low Quality video call might work too. Ads |

Now this gets everyone, theres 8 Kb (Capital K representing kilobytes) in 1 kb ( Lower case for kilobit) kilobit is used to measure the speed of something at.. KB is the bandwidth of it. so it says 30kBits meaning that for every bit that it uses 8 Bytes is travelling so to make this simple you should be able to do a decent audio call but i wouldn't promise anything on the video as depending on the upload speed the most your get is 20KB/s
sorry if that was complicated if you want to know more go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsJ1A0W7U20 |
