How to create a website or a blog that displays many things?
My mother and I are trying to open a party planning business and we have already done several parties. I would like to create either a website or a blog to display what we have done so far. Is there anywhere that I can do this and make it look professional? I am hoping to use the website as an example of what we can do for advertising. Any help would be great!!

A free blog host with a paid custom domain might suffice, at a cost of about $12/yr.
Google's Blogger.com is the most popular and had no paid upgrade options like most of the others, Wordpress.com is the free hosted version of the industry standard blog engine, more valuable to learn than Google's less flexible, proprietary platform, I believe Wordpress.com charges for adding a custom domain. Not programming is required to make a blog, knowing how to edit and optimize images, like with Gimp the free poor man's Photoshop is useful, most importantly make professional quality photos.

This Google search: site:blogspot.com inurl:"party planner"
will get you Blogger site examples too cheap to get their own custom domain name.

You would want to focus on Local SEO, and if you can manage to get a business address, a Google Places page which is the easiest way to be found in a local search. Try Google searching: Party Planner, your city, the A-G stick pins are free Places pages, rolling over one pops up a map, etc. reviews, citations on other business directories, mentions on social sites and a ranking business site all can improve the position of a local listing, getting into those top 7 that appear on the first page is tough in competitive fields, another ranking factor, age is something you can get started by getting that page right away (Yahoo and Bing have similar pages)

Step one : Register a website
Step two : Install WordPress
Step three : If you havnt heard of wordpress and want to do everything by yourself , download Lynda.com tutorials of wordpress for Kick start ( You can fetch a torrent ) , Time : approx 2-4 days
Step four : Download any Magazine style theme ( They are best to display events and news )

Work in an organized manner and your website will be up and running in nearly 10-15 days

LAST STEP : If you are lost and don't want to do anything "HIRE SOMEONE" Wink

Hi Sam

I would go for an own domain name (costs you around $10 a year for a .com address) and then you need hosting, for example from hostgator.com (starts at $7 per month). Then I would install wordpress, is very easy to do on the hosting page.
Then install a good theme (you can google if you find something related to parties) and you are ready to create your blog/page and put your information and pictures on it....
