Facebook login rejected?

When my friend tries to log in to Facebook on her phone, she gets a prompt that says "login approval required you will get an SMS message shortly with a code to use for logging in." She's done this several times and has waited hours and no message has come in. Why is this happening and how can we fix it?

fix it by using a computer to log in - the computer will explain the problem better
