When I click on mail I get the message that I need to update my Safari and my Firefox browser.?
I am able to click a link to update my Firefox browser but there is no link to update Safari.

Try the Apple Software Update program. Let it check for updates. If one is available, download and install the update. If not, open your web browser and download and install it from the Apple website.
