ad hoc is just as it happens, not on a set schedule.
A direct debit for example, is scheduled, if you pay your bills by direct debit they take the money at the same time every month, but if you just walk in the bank at random times and give them random amounts, maybe pay 1 lot this month, 2 lots the month after, that kind of thing, that is ad hoc. Need a little more detail because the answer depends upon the context where it is used. An ad-hoc payment is an impromptu action that provides for a solution to suit a unique situation. For an example an ad hoc payment that is above the amount due might require a decision to return the overpayment or apply it to future invoices.
