There's actually a huge difference between the 2. People tend to see them as the same thing simply because they're both social networks. Other than that... they way people use it are vastly different.

Twitter: People Share links, articles and videos
Facebook: People update their status' with a more personal perspective ("I'm tired" "I feel like spaghetti")

Twitter: You connect with friends, strangers and people you want to know or find interesting
Facebook: Only Friends
