English Language Essay - Is this okay for an introduction?
The question is: Explore the features of the language used in digital communications which suggest they are closer to spoken rather than written language. Comment on public attitudes towards these relatively new forms of communication.

This is my introduction:

Ever since the first text message was sent in 1992, digital communication has been growing and evolving at a rapid rate. And where would we be these forms of communication? Texting or SMS (short message service), is a method of communication that sends text between mobile phones. The SMS concept was developed in the Franco-German GSM cooperation in 1984 by Friedhelm Hillebrand and Bernard Ghillebaert. Beginning with simple 160-character SMS messages, the text’s influence can be seen in social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, with Twitter still having a 140-character limit today. Digital communication methods have changed language to such an extent that an entire new lexicon has been developed, one could even argue that a whole new language has come into use; with Text English being a new and thriving dimension of the language. These changes can arguably be compared to that of Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary, or even the Printing Presses of William Caxton and Johannes Gutenberg. The rate at which the English language has evolved over the past decade has been of dramatic speed. This speed was first stimulated by the need for brevity due to the character restrictions text messages once possessed. Text users tried to make their messages as efficient and effective as possible to reach economic goals. The need for speed is also a primary factor of how Text English came about, as Benjamin Franklin once said, “Time is money.” Digital communication is mainly between friends and family and not on a professional capacity, thus the language used by users reflects the informality.

Is this okay? - Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thankyou.

That's fine. But you my add the following :

Since most users of SMS messages are friends or family members, therefore its writing style is very informal, at times you may use abbreviations like lol, idk, omg that happen to be a norm in text messages. The language used is much more closer to the spoken one rather than the written form.

And its brevity and speed has made people crazy who keep on sending text messages on a scale not forcasted before. Its user friendly features like slang words, acronyms and other forms never known before in written messages has made it an instant success. Lastly, William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Emily Bronte would be totally out of mind to know that innovation has transformed the customary etiquettes and salutations of English language to a laughing stock of abbreviations.
