how to find people to follow on twitter?

OK, so I am new to Twitter, sort of :/ . I know that you need to follow people to GET followers. However, on my feed, I only get famous people to follow. I KNOW they won't follow me back. So, how should I find people to follow on Twitter, like regular people like you and me

The Twitter find followers thingy shows people who follow people you follow or the followers of the people who you follow or in the same category... (Confusing...) Its kinda like Facebook's Mutual Friends.

You should also make use of the refine search on Twitter...
