Why do people develop facebook applications?

Besides a love of programming, why do people do this? Does facebook pay them? If not, why not?

Experience, practice, recognition, entertainment, personal increase of knowledge. ...they may also recognize the need for it whether it be personal or out of the kindness of their heart. Why do people answer questions on Yahoo!?

1. For advertising reason, basicially to make them money.
You think how many people go on facebook, if you make a good application you gonna have alot of people using it. So you can turn around and say i have this many people using this application i will charge you X amount for an advert.

2. To promote a site, product, etc. If you have something you want to get out there, on facebook you have a lot of people in one place basically advertising again.

3. Someone that just likes doing it. Like some poeople like answering questions on here.

and facebook don't pay them but companies pay facebook for adverts on there site, if this didn't happen facebook would properly not exist
