I don't think that there will ever be anything like Beatlemania again. Yes, 1D may be all over social media, but young people also have many more external influences competing for their attention.
I was born just after The Beatles split up, but even so, you could still feel the waves of Beatlemania, their profound influence.

1d are very famous because of social media. Nothing wrong with that, but they will never compare the Beatles.
The Beatles redefined famous nearly half a century before social media even existed. I sincerely doubt t 1D could do that.

Depends on your definition of 'famous'. I bet more people in the world have heard of The Beatles today than have heard of One Direction. And One Direction are at their height right now, and The Beatles are long gone. I think that says it all.

Also, The Beatles were a huge influence on their genre of music, One Direction will never be able to make that claim. History will remember The Beatles.

I think Harry Styles said that just to get attention because even he, an Englishman himself, knows that the Beatles will always be famous even after all these years and will never be forgotten. Also, even though their music is quite good right now but One Direction is and always will be no more famous than The Spice Girls (Remember them?) and will probably last just as long if they're lucky.

The Beatles revolutionised music while One Direction sound like a bunch of 10 year old boys who have been sucking helium out of balloons.
