Investigation on IP address?
My ex got a letter from Verizon saying his IP address was under investigation, The next thing he did was disconnect his computer and buy a new one. He then smashed his hard drive. What would be the cause of this I have seen him looking at porn like barely legal stuff and he is in his late 40s, I have never heard of anyone getting a letter from an Internet service provider saying the ip address is under investigation.

I'd say your guess about the notice having something to do with porn, possibly an illegal type of porn, is the reason his ISP has contacted him. It's really surprising that the police didn't come knocking on the door before any notice was sent. It did him no good to destroy his hard drive, because the police can confiscate the records of Verizon that will list the web sites the computer link has visited for the past 6 months or so, depending on how long Verizon keeps their files. All ISP's are required to keep a record of links visited for every computer connection. The only thing that has to be determined by an investigation, is who was using the computer terminal when any illegal links were used.

buying a new computer won't help at all they investigate the external ip (routers ip) so destroying the computer won't help and nothing will since the router is owned by verizon and whether or not he brakes that, they can look at it and what he's watching so nothing can help and if he did anything illegal, he's damned.

He's an idiot. He could have simply replaced his hard drive. Obviously he had something to hide.

BTW; Even with a new computer he still has the same IP address. The ISP is watching his physical location & any IP he has.

There is no phone company or internet service provider that will inform or tell people they are under investigation because that violates the Law.
