why is it hard for me to deal with change?
Basically last year everyone I knew turned 18 and obviously so did I and ever since everyone I know has changed and become something they're not and it's breaking my heart. I keep looking back over my Facebook and twitter pages and reminisce about how good everything used to be and keep wishing everyday and every night that things would go back to the good old days as I call them.

I had a bad incident in 2010 and noticed people becoming different, back before everyone turned 18 I had everything, a good life, perfect girlfriend and a nice job, but ever since turning 18 life has become rubbish and I suffer from major depression and now it's at an all time high and I've started using alcohol and cigarettes to treat it as therapy/counselling doesn't work.

someone please help put my mind at ease.

First off, I just want to say I'm experiencing the same situation as you right now. It's tough, seeing your old friends make seemingly forced changes to themselves to no longer associate with their past. I can't say I haven't changed myself, but some of my close friends from years ago have changed so drastically, I feel like they're in denial or something.

I have a feeling you're associating your depressive state with other people's changes, but I think it may actually have to do with some underlying issues here, like this bad incident you mentioned. Either way, please, PLEASE do not turn to cigarettes and alcohol, this only leads to much worse things, which can potentially bring you to a point of no return. I also know some people who have turned this way, and it hasn't been working out for them. In fact, it's made everything much worse and I can imagine it's doing the same for you.

Do your best to try to find an alternative coping mechanism for the time being, while you work on making progress to get out of the depressive state you're in. Peer groups, some kind of social outlet, or a hobby that you can dedicate yourself to, is best. But seriously, stay away from the substances.

Good luck. Smile
