Why can't i put a photo on my profile?

I don't wish to sound arrogant but please don't tell me how to do it as I've done it countless times before, but now for some reason when I go to the main profile page and click on the image from which the Facebook link appears it always shows the Facebook icon whether I'm connected or not. If I click on the Facebook icon it just takes me to the page which shows whether I'm connected or not. If it was working like it should there would be my image from Facebook on the Facebook link and not the Facebook icon itself. Do I have a virus or something?
