Facebook friend request pending for a really long time?
I friend requested someone more than 5 months ago, but they never showed up on my list. On the profile it still says "Friend request sent" but they changed their picture and added other people since then. Did they reject the friend request? Is this an error?

If I send another request, will they know?
Well, if I visit this person's friends' page, it says this person's friend and I have hm as a mutual friend. How could his friend and I have him as a mutual friend if he never added me as a friend?

They have either ignored or not paid any attention to your request. If the first request was ignored, then if you try and send another one, it will likely show up again, its been awhile since I've used facebook, so the second part may not be accurate.

facebook will flag you if you cancel it and send another request... that's considered spam

they ignored your request - that means they dont recognize you - if you send another one, there is a good chance they will report you for breaking the rules by sending more than one request

When the person's friend page says you both have a mutual friend it only means that this mutual friend accepted friend requests from both of you, NOT that this person had to have accepted your friend request which it appears did not happen.

Why worry about it? Why want to be a friend with someone that doesn't know you or like you enough to be a friend? A lot of people just don't want too many friends on Facebook because then it opens up your private life to more and more people when you only wanted to share certain things with certain people.

For this reason I wish Facebook had three levels of friends: Close friends, distant friends, and everybody else (random strangers), so you could pick which activities and info/pics/etc, which group sees.

If you don't want to accept friend request so no problem just keep stay all request in your pending list otherwise those person make another chance to send request again.
Hope this will help you.
