Idea on how to make a forum more active?

So i use a forum which is for a site called Swapit. Its slowly loosing activity, so want to know some things we could do on the forum which would boost sctivity by current members?

Like what games or competitions or things we could run that doesnt involve me but will increase posts or threads?

Any ideas are good ideas.

run a survey as a quiz with a prize and ask your existing customers.
look up what other forums are doing - why are they more active
maybe do more seo to generate more traffic
