Why is internet speed (download+upload) SO TERRIBLE (1 mb per second)?
So I did a few tests on http://www.speedtest.net/ and my download speed averaged at 1.5mb/second meanwhile the worldwide average is about 15mb/second!!!!
I can't figure it out! I even changed my dns codes to one that was supposed to be 70% faster (based on my location, again, I did tests.) but it's almost identical. I'm currently downloading a steam game and it's taking forever (two days... about 70% done) Any suggestions to fix this mess (for free) I'm with Bell Canada internet There's not much for internet. You're either with Roger's or Bell in my home town. Both are crappy. I can't afford anything othr then what I have now. What package have you go with your ISP? It doesn't matter what the worldwide average has because they will obviously have different ISP and will pay for a different package. If you're paying for something around 2mbs then obviously you're not going to get 15mbs. Also check your router, some routers don't give you the speed you should be getting. Also if you're using wireless instead of wired connection then you will lose speed. Try connecting to your router via an Ethernet cable.

1 - it's no good running speedtest if you are currently downloading - it'll give false reading
2 - if you sign up (free) to speedtest you can monitor you speed several times a day for 1 week and compare them with others from same provider and / or country etc 3 - after 1 week of results you can challenge your provider depending on t's & c's in UK most providers always offer up to ?? mbps speed so they can supply lower speeds but some are now (because of competition and complaints) now giving what you pay for (I'm pay for 30mbps and getting 32mbps ) yes you are with Bell but what speed/package are you paying for? |
