How to start a rap career?
Hey guys, i produce my own music, never do i sample. only sometimes and for personal entertainment but not to give away or sell. i been making a album and perfecting my style for almost two years now. No one has really heard me except family and friends, there pretty blunt, so i know I'm ready. What I'm asking really is how should i promote myself and gain exposure for a rap artist who is starting out. 10 Points for the person that can give me the most information/links/advice ect. I'm pretty clueless so thanks for your time!!

1. Image is EVERYTHING! (unfortunately)
2. Don't be that next Chief Keif, (In other words, Don't be a follower) !INNOVATE! 3. Know EXACTLY what is coming up in terms of sounds and artists//Dig around the underground first 4. The main theme (Lyrics wise) that is coming back right now within the rap game is "Psychological Lyrics" like (Tyler the Creator) or (Kendrick Lamar) just mainstream examples.. 5. Get into "Cloud Rap" and this Future beat movement (This goes with #2) 6. Meet people* Communicate* Network* Go out to the clubs* and most Importantly, Make a DEMO and have some work that will back you up! 7. You're Most valuable tool besides you're work is "Social Media" (Soundcloud, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and Bandcamp) <> (Use these sites to you're advantage and promote to music blogs (VERY IMPORTANT) 8. Pick a name NOBODY else has, so its easy to find you on google. (ALSO VERY IMPORTANT) It's not easy man, but if you keep your eyes on the prize and have an idea very few or no one else has done, go for it and keep pushing. Hope this helped and good luck man! |
