When i connect my computer directly to the modem it works. But when i connect it to the router (which is connected to the modem). The internet stops working.

I'm assuming you're connecting your computer to the router and the modem using the same network cord? If so, then yes chances are you're router is bad. If you're using different cables when testing the connection try this first:

1. Make sure the router and modem are powered off.
2. Connect your computer to the modem with a network cord and power on the modem. If it works, you know the modem and the cable are good.
3. Disconnect the network cable from your computer and connect it to the WAN port on the router.
4. Power on the router and let it perform it's startup tasks.
5. Connect your computer to the router with another network cord and test the connection.

If all works, you're in business. If not, you can try using a different network cord to connect your computer to the router just to rule out a possible bad cable to your computer.

Another test would be to see if you can access your router's configuration pages from your computer. If you can get into your router's config, there is normally a diagnostics section that will test your Internet connection. You can try using this tool(s) to see if the connection between the router and the modem is working.
