According to speedtest.net I have ping 61ms; Download speed 12mbps; Upload speed 1.29mbps. Yet when I try to download a 125mb file it takes 2 hours...Can someone explain this for me please?

The Internet is a big place. It's much like a big city. Some roads may be congested while others are wide open. The speedtest result only provides the speed to the specific server used for the speed test. The file you tried to download is on some other server that may be reachable only through slow or congested network links.

Download speed also depends on the bandwidth you are allotted by the server from which you download. It is also effected by other clients in your network as well as other programs that access internet from your own system

it depends on what the hoster is uploading it to. Some site wants you to pay for the speed, large data, etc... Take rapidgator for example. Some sites like mediafire has minimum restriction which means you can download 128mb at the speed of 128kb/sec or 200kb/sec. With 12mbps, you should be able to download 128mb less than 2hr. Good luck!
