How does Facebook work out my friends shown on the profile?

Hey guys,

Now I know that this question has been asked a million times and I've read a lot of them but they all turn up with the same answers saying that it is random or who I interact with the most but it isn't random as no matter how many times I refresh my page over a few days it comes up with the same people.

Now I don't use Facebook that much just to look at certain pages and all that. I have a few guys who post on my wall and a couple of girls I will like pictures of every now and then but other than that I only comment on groups and fan pages and all that.

Now to my main point, there is a girl who I used to go to school with who I am really into, I will look at her profile fairly regularly but as far as I know she doesn't know I exist. Now when I go on my profile and look at my top 8 friends there are a couple of guys who comment on my profile fairly regularly, a girl whose photos I like every now and then, a bunch of random dudes, an old mates girlfriend and the girl I like.

Now what I am wondering is about half of the friends that turn up I have literally nothing to do with on Facebook, like if I saw them in real life I would say hi, but I never say anything to them on Facebook or view their profiles. The old mates gf I haven't spoken to on Facebook for a very long time but she still comes yet girls who will like things posted to me or even my ex girlfriend who before we broke up was quite active on my wall doesn't turn up in the friends.

Now it is obviously not random because out of the 300 friends I have the 2 most active people on my wall are there, but what I am wondering is the rest based on people who view my profile or who I view the most. Because it is very embarrassing to think that people could know that I am looking at this girl I likes Facebook all the time like some creeper yet would it also mean that a whole bunch of random guys who I don't have a whole lot to do with are viewing my profile?

TL;DR:

Girl I like on Facebook has turned up on my friends shown on my profile yet I have nothing to do with her apart from viewing her profile and pictures. Is there any hope that perhaps she is viewing my profile as well and that is why she is there?

Facebook pays attention to whose profiles you view most often, but probably only tells YOU whom, in accordance with the FB privacy policy. You should still check your privacy settings.
