Self obsession leads to stupidity?
Does this make sense. Yes or no.

Someone is selfobsessed
They focus on unimportant things that don't matter
They focus on their twitter rather than listening in class
Their priorities are not straight
They would rather spend time online than hw
This can lead to stupidity, ignorance and idiocy, because they are self obsessed

Of course you can be self obsessed and become very successful but in this scenario ^

If NO,that does not make sense. Why is self obsession a problem? How does a person being self obsessed affect others around them?

I wouldn't say it leads to stupidity. Ignoring hw to be online isn't self obsession it's not caring.
However, the behavior you are pointing out overall... I wouldn't say it leads to stupidity, but rather to much less success in life. They can easily become a floater through life and just do whatever is easiest. End up working a low paying job, living in a cheap apartment for the rest of their life.

Being self obsessed can actually lead to success. If you focus on yourself that means that YOU are the important one, which would mean less time spent socializing and more time spent improving yourself.

But the person above is probably just not interested in responsibilities and would rather focus on the fun things in life instead of getting ahead in the world.

It's a result of stupidity, Self-Obsession means you have very little input, and very little awareness of what's around you, so you focus on the 1 factor you do get a lot of, YOU.

People that have a filled life, with plenty to do, won't be nearly as interested in thinking about themselves too much.

In this case, it isn't 'self' obsession. That is only about shutting everyone else out, and becoming more a recluse, not getting a word out, or receiving a word in. Not to say that they are not obsessing over being online rather than homework. As an adult, and their life depended on it, and their school is paid for, then it's a waste they are doing instead, in not making that a priority to survive. The only way they can continue it, or not care, is having other's that are supporting them, and they feel this is how it will be for them, for life. With these being said..idk anymore than what you said.

However, not all jobs require a college education. Having lived life, and finishing HS, might be all they need to do what they are interested in. Talking, socializing over currant events, sitting for long periods of time, and motivated to stay with it. Much easier to train someone into data processing with this type of skill. Just leaving breaks to socialize then, or after hours. The fact they are enrolled, or attended some college will still give the person an edge to have this type of job, that some people wouldn't be comfortable at, sitting at this long, in front of a computer. So, you might suggest that they start applying for jobs in this field of work, and then not have to finish school, for what subjects or profession otherwise, that doesn't really interest the person. They are better able to work independently, then as a group, posting pertinent info into the business for other's that need it, later on.

I would agree completely.

Self obsession has become THE accepted way to live life for many people (sorry to say the generations of people that are growing up in the age of communication/technology).

Our idols have become celebrities, famous for being themselves and so a large portion of our culture are obsessed with fame.

Their own fame, more precisely!

Facebook, youtube, twitter etc are all ways people self publicize their own lives, so they feel important and also "involved" with what is happening. Even though all that is happening, according to trend, is so and so said OMG and have you seen the photos of so and so that got re-tweeted...

This behavior is not only detrimental to social skills and circles, specifically for youngsters, but it is addictive..

If people spent as much time educating themselves through reading/ research/ intelligent debate or even, god forbid, excelling in their studies, our future would be full of intelligent, thoughtful people with realistic dreams and ambitions.

Rather than a bunch of wannabe, talent-less celebrities.

That's my two cents..
