Do I not give this guy a job?

Do I not give this guy a job?
My company is hiring a part-time assistant to help get us up to speed on things we don't have time to do like updating twitter and filing. I called someone that I originally turned down for another job as I was originally impressed with him, even if I didn't hire him the first time. Since I've called him the following has happened:
-It took him 3 days to respond to an email I wrote him.
-He agreed to meet me this morning to go over the details of the job and he canceled an hour before the meeting via TEXT MESSAGE.
-He's spelled my name wrong twice already (my real name is not the name I use on Yahoo).

Is it appropriate by now to tell him that he's not right for the job? I don't want to come off as a cold and heartless, especially in this job market, but I can't hire someone this flaky and who can't even take the time to see how my name is spelled. Imagine if he did the same thing with a prospective client.
Thanks for advice everyone! I really appreciate it. I called him and told him that it wasn't going to work out.

Follow your instincts. The tough job market is even more reason to avoid a flake - think of all the hard working, responsible people out there looking for jobs. Don't waste your time on this guy. Call him and tell him personally that he's not a good fit.

Don't hire this joker, he's obviously not a good candidate for the job. Look for someone who deserves and actually WANTS the job.

I would think he is definitely not right for the job, especially in this job market. You are in the enviable position of being able to offer a job to someone. He has shown no interest in it. I am sure you can find someone who would love to work for your company and will be willing to respond in a timely manner, be respectful of your time as well as the spelling of your name. Let this person go.

Your instincts are right. There are plenty of people out there looking for a job; you dont' have to waste your time and energy on one that shows he doesn't match what you're looking for. It's pretty much a guarantee he'll bring the same lackadaisical attitude to the job you'd be paying him for.

He doesn't really sound very enthusiastic; if he really wanted the job, he would do everything he could to convince you to give it to him, such as show up at arranged times or at least have the curtesy to call and cancel as much in advance as he could. You're right about the name thing, too. I suggest you look for someone else and just tell him that you're sorry however you have found someone who is better suited for the position

i think that you should not tell him that he is fired let's see if he can change his attitude about the situation first then try again if by any chance he doesn't get the message let him go jobs are hard to find
