How does the facebook choose which mutual friends to show?

So, whenever I look at my own profile on Facebook, I see the little box of my friends (I have timeline) and it shows people who I'm legitimately good friends with. I write on their wall and message them. I don't have many people on my friends list like that so it's the same people every time I refresh my page.
BUT heres the kicker. There is one guy who shows up in that little box, a little more than occasionally, that I have never messaged or written on his wall! I added him like maybe 2 weeks ago. (when I added a bunch of other people in my grade, like 30 or so)
Whats up with that? Why is he showing up along with my good friends?

Honestly, I'm worried about it because he is my crush. I mean how likely that out of my 350 something friends hes the glitch? I've also just recently added him and made sure not to look at his profile that much so I'm not creepy. I've looked at his like 5 times tops.
P.S hes totally out of my league so I don't see him liking me.

I see your point, but I think facebook does know something. everyone else who shows up are my friends that I talk to and message and wall post, like the same 20 people show up, along with him. I can think of reasons that I would have a lot of contact with them, like my best friends and family. but theres just that one outlier...

Facebook chooses the friends to show according to your level of interaction with them. But since, you said that there's a guy who shows up on your best friends list, but you don't interact with him a lot, it might be a bug that Facebook has. There is nothing to worry about it.

Friends that show in the little box aren't really chosen. Well, they are, but it's mostly random. Facebook developers don't have to time to check all your posts and photos just to see who you socialize and hang out with the most. It's randomized.

Edit: I actually just checked my Timeline and I talk to three of the people shown, but the other three I barely know. It's randomized.

Edit: Well, I don't think that Facebook has the power to look into your mind and see if he's your crush. Lol. Try refreshing the page. My box always shows different people every time I refresh mine.
