Torrenting is sharing. You get the file you wanted because it exists on other peoples computers (just like yours) not on servers or websites. The speed and availability of the file you want depends on seeds, the more people who have their computer on and are seeding, the faster you get the file you want.

If nobody seeds, nobody gets the file. So by not seeding you are screwing the next guy but really screwing yourself. The normal rule is to seed at least to 1.5. Private torrent sites are higher and wont allow people who don't seed or meet seed requirements.

If you're not going to seed, don't torrent.

My 2 cents.

When you download anything in uTorrent, you directly download from your peers(people who have the file you are downloading, in this particular case) directly. After you finished your download, you can act as a source for that particular file. That is, people are downloading that file from your system.
Seeding does lead to higher data usage. So it's better to stop seeding after a particular point of time or after you finish downloading - whenever you feel like

1.Seeding - Thia is a process of sharing a file that is currently stored on your PC through a torrent, giving it to others.

2. Seeding is where you leave your BitTorrent client open after you've finished your download to help distribute it (you distribute the file while downloading, but it's even more helpful if you continue to distribute the full file even after you have finished downloading).

3.Torrents work in a way that a user downloads a file and once a file is downloaded he starts seeding it - sending it to others, more people seeding (sending files), faster download is because they can get more files at the same time from other users.
