What online design site is the best for making your own website?
I don't particularly want to buy software unless you think it is a much better idea to do so. I want to use one of these online website creation services, like Webeden, to make a website for a project I am managing.

I have a budget of about £800, but would prefer to spend a lot less if possible so that I can use this part of the budget else where in the project.

I will edit it myself. I am computer literate, although have no idea about HTML. I have been using a CMS system at work for a few years now, and use basic HTML like <br> (please do not mock me if that is not actually HTML...).

I like the idea of editing it myself because it gives me control.

It doesn't need to be 'flashy' at all. It will basically be an informational point - I am not selling anything, do not need a forum, will not have members, or anything else. Just updates regarding the project. including pictures and maybe videos. I do value a clear layout though - a proper website with pages; not one of these endless scrolling blog things.

I already have Facebook and Twitter and integrating these two would be useful, although not essential. I definitely want a website as well as the social networking - the website address will be very useful for a lot of my marketing.

Many thanks for your help,
J

Hello,

Website builders are good for creating a website for free, or for a low budget. My personal favorite is http://www.drupalgardens.com. Here are some others:

http://www.yola.com
http://www.weebly.com
http://www.webs.com

Advantages:

These do-it-yourself platforms are very cost-effective and enable even the smallest organisation to get online. They offer functionality at a click and designs that can be changed in just a few seconds. Do-it-yourself platforms are also supported by active communities who pride themselves on solving any problems that might arise.

What to watch out for:

These platforms do have their limitations: your organisation will need to be flexible about what it wants from them. If you anticipate your content will evolve quickly, structure a website that can be expanded or exported to a more complex build. Think about what future functionality you may want – customisation tends to be less flexible than developers claim. You’ll also need to put in a lot of time or employ an expert to help out. Organising online information effectively and implementing good design demand time and experience.

Hope that helps! Check out this article for more details and other options: http://www.ethicalstudios.com/en/blog/ge...our-budget

I appreciate your enthusiasm, however using an online web builder is great for your first website and all that, but not always the most practical for long-term business use.

You would really benefit from learning some HTML and start practicing with your own. There is nothing wrong with Googling (or even asking here!) if you don't know how to do something, for example creating a table to align contact details on a contact page.

You can read - and learn - more here: http://www.w3schools.com/html/
