Hotel bookings using Kayak & Orbitz. Do they really work?

So I've NEVER booked a hotel through any of these agency but recently a friend of mine told me how she rented a hotel room for half the prince on kayak. My concern is do those sites really work!? If so how do they work? Is that really the price you got? please someone who's used them already let me know how your experience was.

Yes they work. Personally, I haven't tried Kayak (used Orbitz before though), but it works the same as the others. I have also used travelocity, which is good from my experience.
