Is posting a picture online from another site illegal?

I am making a website and I want to know if saving pictures from the image gallery of a site or just from the images into my site is illegal?

I know I need permission to post a picture on my site, but what if I write underneath it the site name where I got the picture from? Or what if I crop the picture and take off the name of the site that is written on the picture? Is all that illegal.
Help me with an answer before I find out I have a $200,000 fine waiting for me lol. Thanks

U can put pics or anything in ur site. But just write a notification if u r the copyright owner of any content then they contact u to remove that content.

There are some images that everyone is allowed to use for free and there are some which have copyright on them. If you want to put an image on your site that has a copyright you can either contact the owner and ask him if it's fine to place on your site or leave credits under the picture.
