True or false immature people say "ily" instead of "I love you"?

It's annoying to me how people on Facebook or Twitter say ily instead of "I love you." It's kind of like they don't really want to spell it out because they don't really love the person and it's just lazy..So my question is..True or false immature people say "Ily" instead of "I love you"? And why?

Yeah I love you is much more formal and from the heart then ily
